For my days vanish like smoke;(A)
    my bones(B) burn like glowing embers.
My heart is blighted and withered like grass;(C)
    I forget to eat my food.(D)
In my distress I groan aloud(E)
    and am reduced to skin and bones.
I am like a desert owl,(F)
    like an owl among the ruins.
I lie awake;(G) I have become
    like a bird alone(H) on a roof.
All day long my enemies(I) taunt me;(J)
    those who rail against me use my name as a curse.(K)
For I eat ashes(L) as my food
    and mingle my drink with tears(M)
10 because of your great wrath,(N)
    for you have taken me up and thrown me aside.
11 My days are like the evening shadow;(O)
    I wither(P) away like grass.
